fur coat    

All guinea pigs need lots of attention and should be handled as much as possible. all guinea pigs have lovely fur coats which should be brushed 3 or 4 times a week. some long furred guinea pigs will need to be brushed thoroughly everyday to prevent matting. long furred guinea pigs when let to run about outside should be shampooed once a month. Remember not to shampoo its` fur too much as it will loose its` natural oils. special pet shampoos can be bought which are best for this job. 

Claws

guinea pigs claws can grow at a fast rate and should be clipped regularly to prevent them from curling over. the guinea pigs bones aren't as strong as the nail and if a claw is caught it will be the bone that breaks.
