guinea pig history

    guinea pigs originated from south America and can still be found in the hill and mountains of such countries as Peru, Uruguay and Argentina. There have been many arguments about where they acquired their name as they are not pigs and probably have never heard of guinea so, what's the answer? In England the currency they were first sold at was in guineas. They squeal like pigs. For the more serious guinea pig fan you can call them cavies. Latin for animals with short or no tails.
